We are killing time on a train. I feel like the only correct answer, given who we seem to be, is to daydream until we either reach our destination or fall asleep.

Im sleepy. Obviously this will correlate. Do we have an alarm like device like a phone as to set an alarm and nap? It sounds horrifying to nap unprepared and miss the stop.

It does! But c'mon, we might not even fall asleep. And if we do, we might wake up on our own. And if we don't, there might be an automated process to alert us when our stop is coming up. It's probably fine. Let's just muse for a while on what the implications would be if ears were detachable and whether there's any special significance we've never considered to the shape and/or etymology of the written forms of a few common nouns. We got this.

If ears were detachable... well theyre like vibration dishes right? Itd just reduce the effectiveness of it, I wonder if there would be any kind of benefit to that. Musing sounds appropriate (edited)

Definitely in some circumstances! We should brainstorm which. And figure out whether human ears would make a bigger or smaller difference than ours.

Engage in practice conversations based on what we imagine talking to our new classmates might be like when we actually meet them. It's not like there's anyone on the train to judge us!

Call out into the station to see if anyone's home. Also, was someone supposed to pick us up, or were we expected to make our way to our scholarly destination on-foot?

Try to figure it out per the other suggestions, but also reminisce about Time Enough At Last from the Twilight Zone, that episode where the apocalypse happened and that guy who wanted to be alone to read survived but broke his glasses. It isn't a good parallel considering how outgoing we are but it makes me think of that and that episode always made me feel kind of spooked. That's possibly even worse.

He looks a little like a janitor, and we haven't been paying attention to the light since our daydream. Possibly we fell asleep by accident. Is it after hours? Did we forget our scheduled arrival time and show up after dark? Did we just fail to notice because of our excellent nightvision? How much later is it than we thought? OH GODS, ARE WE LATE FOR CLASS? Approach this new person, greet him like a normal person, and ask him WHERE THE HECK IS EVERYONE? Also, make sure that he really IS a normal person, and not an advanced simulacrum upon closer inspection.
